• Letter of Acknowledgement issued by the Motor Transport Licensing Authority (MTLA)

• Letter from the Language and Literature Bureau (Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka) with both Jawi and Rumi spellings where the Jawi spelling must be twice as big as the Rumi spelling.

How do I transfer of ownership of the vehicle?

In order to be eligible for the ownership transfer of the vehicle, you must fulfilled the following perquisites:-

• Completed Transfer of Ownership of Motor Vehicle (Regulation 48a) Form

• Original Registration Card/Book

• Copies of Smart Identification Card and Driving License of both transferor and transferee (documents must be signed)

• Insurance coverage must be in the transferee’s name

How can I transfer the ownership of my car?

You must write an application letter with copies of smart identification card and driving license of both transferor and transferee. For new registration number that has not been registered, full payment of the bid is required. The Service Fee will be B$5.00. Transfer will only be allowed between spouses (husband and wife), offspring (father and child or mother and child) and siblings (brother and sister, etc.) (approval will be given at the Director’s discretion) except in cases where the registration number has been suspended.

How can I change/retain my vehicle number?

You must submit the completed application for transfer of vehicle registration number form and copy of registration card/book and change/retain Fee is B$55.00. Payment can be done at Counters 11 and 12 at LTD Gadong headquarters. Amendment of Vehicle License Fee will be B$10.00. Payment can be done at Counter 5 after completion of engraving at Vehicle Inspection Centre.

I have lost/missing/misplaced or damaged driving license?

Please go to your nearest Police Station to file a report for Lost/Missing/Misplaced or Damaged Driving License. Then you must submit the completed application for a license or for renewal of a license to drive a motor vehicle form. The Service fee is B$10.00.

How to apply for international driving permit?

You must submit the completed application form with two (2) passport-sized photographs and copy of valid driving license (1 year validity). The Service Fee will be B$15.00.

How to apply for new/full driving license?

In order to be eligible to apply for a new/full driving license, you must fulfilled the following criteria and perquisites:-

• Passed driving test (for new applicant)

• Completed Application for a License or for Renewal of a License to Drive a Motor Vehicle Form

• Charges for issuance of full driving license:

§ 1 year – B$10.00

§ 3 years – B$30.00

§ 5 years – B$50.00

§ 10 years – B$100.00

• Drivers aged 70 years and above are required to undergo a medical fitness test and the driving license issued will be of one year validity only.

• For driving license classifications 4, 5, 6, 6A, 11 and 12, the driver must hold a class 3 driving license and the driving license issued will be of one year validity only.

• Driving licenses for heavy or public service vehicles cannot be renewed without the driver’s medical fitness certificate.

• For foreign drivers, the driving license for heavy or public service vehicles issued will be of one year validity only.

• A fee of B$10.00 will be charged for failure to renew driving license after a period of 60 days (2 months) from the date of expiry.

• If a driving license has expired for 3 years or more, the driver will be required to undergo certain tests.

• Aged 18 years and above for motorcycle and private vehicle usage

Please go to your nearest Police Station to file a report for Lost/Missing/Misplaced Registration Card/Book. Then you must pay the service fee for vehicle inspection that is B$5.00 (If vehicle information cannot be retrieved from SPD) and the charges for issuance of new registration book which is B$20.00.

Is it possible for me to book for vehicle inspection in LTD?

Yes, you may book for the vehicle inspection for at least 3 days before the date of inspection. You may contact LTD hotline 2448009 or you can go directly to the Booking Reservation Counter, Lane 6 and 7, VIC, LTD headquarters during office hours: 8.00am – 12.00pm and 1.45 – 4.15pm. You are advised to come 15 minutes earlier before booking time for inspection
